Brother David V. Craig
PORTSMOUTH — David V. Craig, 73, of Portsmouth, beloved father of Tory, Tamsin, Jarrod and Duncan Craig, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013.
Born in Skowhegan, Maine, on Sept. 25, 1939, he was the son of George and Elizabeth (Varney) Craig. David had been a resident of Portsmouth for the past 37 years.
A University of New Hampshire graduate, David taught English at high schools in Mystic, Conn., Newburyport, Mass., and Portsmouth. He was an accomplished author and songwriter with many published works. He was the front man for the renowned 1960s folk group the Brandywine Singers, which formed during his years at UNH and went on to record albums that landed on the Billboard charts and led to international airplay and televised appearances.
He is survived by his four children, Tory (Craig) Bunce and husband Gary of Newnan, Ga., Tamsin (Craig) Metzler and husband Jeffrey of Long Valley, N.J., Jarrod Craig and wife Michele of Newmarket, and Duncan Craig and wife Catherine of Hampton Falls; and his nine grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his father, George Craig, his mother, Elizabeth Varney Craig, and his brother, George Craig Jr.
